The Joe Difference

All our products are Kiln Dried and NY STATE CERTIFIED!!! You may ask what the difference between Kiln Dried and seasoned wood is? Kiln dried firewood is placed in a controlled kiln where heat and airflow rapidly removes moisture . Quality kiln -dried wood is typically brought down to 20% or less, making it ready to burn right away. When you compare that to season wood that is left out to dry naturally which will leave you with wood that has a significantly higher moisture content than our Kiln Dried wood. Higher moisture generally will leave you with smoky fires. You also risk the chance of dirty piles of wood and also wood filled with insect and bugs by going with season since the wood is stored outside. THE JOE DIFFERENCE is compared to other long island based companies, all our wood is stored inside a warehouse, it never gets wet or dirty.

Why go kiln dried?

  • Burns hotter and longer — Dry wood produces more usable heat because less energy is spent evaporating water.
  • Less smoke — Lower moisture means cleaner, more efficient combustion.
  • Easier to light — It catches and maintains a fire more readily.
  •  Less creosote buildup — More complete combustion can reduce deposits in a chimney, though regular chimney cleaning is still important.
  • Cleaner storage — It generally has less mold and moisture than poorly stored or inadequately seasoned wood.
